Eat dessert and never feel deprived again
Depriving yourself of the foods you love and crave, is the number one reason why most of us fall off a healthy eating regime. Finding a healthy alternative that still fills that void and leaves you satisfied is the perfect answer to staying healthy without ‘falling off the wagon’ and feeling guilty. This Chocolate Avocado Mousse is the perfect answer.
Do you love desserts?
When I was a child I would never say no to dessert, no matter how full I was. Funnily enough, there was always space for ice cream or custard. As an adult, I have become better at saying no to the sweets. Since I have cleaned up my food, the craving for sugary foods have mostly disappeared. My taste has also changed and now I enjoy good quality treats a lot more than sweet, sugary, fat loaded desserts.
Desserts are so popular because a lot them are full of sugar and fat, a combination that our brain and taste buds find irresistible. From an evolutionary point of view, your brain still operates on very old programs. One program that can sabotage your health efforts is to get as much energy (=calories) as possible to keep you safe. Having no energy reserves is not considered safe when being chased by a tiger. That’s why you have no ‘off’ switch, when you eat sugar. Because your body can easily convert sugar into energy.
Chocolate Avocado Mousse is different
Chocolate Avocado Mousse is definitely a healthier alternative to most desserts. But to be clear, there is still a lot of honey (or whatever sweetener you use) in it. But, beside the sweetener, the mousse contains good fats and vitamins from the avocado and antioxidants from the raw chocolate powder. When you use the sweetener sparingly, you end up with a very rich and satisfying creme. You won’t need to eat a lot to feel content. I have made a video for you to see how little time it takes to make this dessert.
Other Options to change it up
In my recipe I have used raw honey as a sweetener. If you prefer you can use maple or rice malt syrup instead. You can also use a mashed banana or some pureed dates instead of sweeteners. And if your mousse is not creamy enough you can always add a little bit of almond or coconut milk.
- 2 avocados ripe
- 1/3 cup honey raw
- 1/2 cup cacao powder raw
- 1 pinch salt
Put all ingredients into a blender and mix until creamy
If the mousse is not creamy enough you can add some almond or coconut milk until you have reached the desired consistency.
